Temperatures in the morning are very low, in
the early 40s ; that means below 10°C. When we are lucky and the sun
shines, temperatures climb up between 15 and 20°C in mid-day.
So far the sudden change of temperatures, the
variation of temperature within a day and the sun shining contribute to the
change of colors on trees. Actually the landscape is different every day. Some
trees are becoming red, some yellows and others are turning in incredible
fluorescent orange colors! It is gorgeous!
Seeing colors in large forests with many
different species of trees, with lakes where the trees can reflect, is a very
popular fall trip for American people. Many tour operators organize day or
week-end trips up North Michigan, to discover dynamic colors along highways,
country roads and coastlines. As it is up North, colors come earlier than in the
greater Detroit area. Moreover, woods and forests are larger, so you can admire
huge panoramas with many trees.
In order not to miss the right time to go and
experience colors, you have to stay focused on the weather changes. In fact, it
is a question of a few weeks, a kind of hunt against colors ! To stay well
informed, weather TV news in October dedicate a time to show the map of the arrival
of colors in Michigan, from the optimal time to see colors according to the
different areas of the state! Isn’t it fun ? In France we have the beach
weather news in summer ; here in Michigan, we have the color arrival
news !
Most of American people are very found of fall
colors. They set up fall decoration on the front door of their house, in early
October. Fall is the main subject before Halloween time. And many people use fall
colors in their interior design from
yellow, to brown, with a large palette of orange and red tones. It is not a
question of fashion, but more a tradition.
Americans have a special bond with fall colors!
